What EWG VERIFIED means

Byra is the only skincare brand in Singapore with EWG VERIFIED certification across its full range. All five formulas carry the mark: PURIFY, ILLUMINATE, REJUVENATE, MERACLE and SATURATE. EWG VERIFIED is awarded by the Environmental Working Group, a nonprofit in the United States, to products that avoid its chemicals of concern and disclose every ingredient on the label.

What is EWG VERIFIED?

It is a third party certification, which is the part that matters. We do not grade ourselves. The Environmental Working Group reads the full formula, including the parts a brand would normally keep to itself, and either approves it or does not.

The mark is licensed, not bought outright. A product cannot display it until EWG has approved the formula and the brand has signed a written agreement covering how it is used.

What does EWG check before it verifies a product?

EWG keeps two lists. One will disqualify a product outright. The other allows an ingredient only under conditions, with documentation proving it stays inside a safe limit. Every Byra formula was screened against both.

Then there is the label. EWG requires that every ingredient appear on it, including the ones the industry habitually buries. Fragrance is the usual hiding place. One word on an ingredient list can stand in for dozens of undeclared compounds, and EWG does not accept that. Preservatives and enzyme preparations have to be named as well.

EWG's science team rewrites the criteria every year. Verification is not a plaque you hang up once and forget.

Which Byra products are EWG VERIFIED?

All of them. Five products, five verifications.

What EWG VERIFIED does not mean

This is where clean beauty gets slippery, so we will be blunt about it.

EWG VERIFIED is a safety and transparency standard. It says nothing about whether a product works. A cleanser can be verified, gentle, entirely free of anything on EWG's list, and still do nothing for your skin. Clean is a floor. It is not a result.

It also does not mean nobody reacts. Skin is individual, and a verified formula can still be the wrong formula for one person. If something stings, stop using it, whatever certification it carries.

So we treat the mark as one piece of evidence rather than the argument. The rest of the argument is on the product pages: the actives, the concentrations, and what happened when the formulas were tested.

Why Byra went through it

We are not romantic about certification. Clean is a marketing category, not a safety standard, and brands use the word constantly without submitting a single formula to anyone.

What EWG gave us was an outside party with no stake in our sales, reading our formulas in full and publishing the outcome. That is harder to fake than a claim on a box. It also meant giving up ingredients that would have been cheaper and easier to work with, which is the part that makes it worth anything.

Byra formulas are made in Sweden and dermatologically tested. Verification sits on top of that rather than in place of it.
